As a Macmillan Village Agent, I work to reduce isolation so that people affected by cancer feel support on their journey

People facing cancer feel less overwhelmed when they know they are not on their own. My work helps individuals across rural Fenland feel connected, supported and able to navigate practical and emotional challenges more confidently.

I support people affected by cancer by listening, building trust and helping them access local services, community groups and practical support. Every situation is different, but being present and approachable helps people feel heard and supported during difficult times.

Rural communities face unique challenges, including isolation and limited access to services. Cambridgeshire ACRE strengthens local support networks so small acts of connection can have a wider impact, ensuring rural residents are not disadvantaged by where they live.

A moment that mattered to me

“A client once said, “I don’t feel like I’m facing this on my own anymore.” That simple comment stayed with me and showed how meaningful it can be to listen and support someone face to face.”
