As the Village Agent for South Cambridgeshire, I focus on helping people feel less isolated and more able to get the help they need

People I work with feel more confident navigating services, less alone in their daily lives, and better able to manage costs, care and health challenges. By offering face‑to‑face support close to home, I help residents overcome barriers that can otherwise leave them excluded or struggling.

I do this by spending time in villages and towns across South Cambridgeshire, working through trusted community hubs. Often it starts with a chat and a cup of tea. From there, I help people access benefits, reduce bills, or find local support for caring, housing or health concerns, especially when online systems are hard to use.

This work matters because many rural residents face growing isolation, digital exclusion and shrinking access to essential services. Community hubs provide a vital local safety net, sustained by dedicated volunteers. By listening to people’s experiences and feeding them into wider conversations, including national reviews of support like PIP, our work helps ensure rural voices are heard.

A moment that mattered to me

“An older gentleman had been unable to see an NHS dentist for years because of long waiting lists and the move to private provision. I helped find a practice with availability and secure him an appointment, easing pain and restoring his confidence in accessing care.”
