As a Rural Housing Enabler, I help rural communities stay together through genuinely affordable homes.
People can remain in the villages they call home, close to family and support networks, because affordable housing is developed with their needs in mind. I work with rural communities across Cambridgeshire to make this possible, helping local people access homes that would otherwise be out of reach.
I support parish councils and local partners to understand housing need and take practical steps to meet it. This includes running local housing needs surveys, explaining the process in clear terms, and identifying suitable sites so communities can move forward with confidence and local backing.
This work matters because many rural areas face a shortage of affordable housing, forcing people to move away and weakening community networks. By enabling locally supported developments, we help sustain villages as mixed, thriving communities and ensure rural places remain viable for future generations.
A moment that mattered to me
“Speaking to residents who had moved into newly built affordable homes, I heard first-hand how being able to stay in their village had changed their lives – keeping them close to family, work and support networks. It was a simple conversation that reinforced the real impact of this work.”
