Cambridgeshire ACRE secures funding to help community buildings save water
Cambridgeshire ACRE has been chosen as a successful applicant by the new Water Efficiency Cambridgeshire Fund (known as the weCB Fund)! This means that our Every Drop Counts: Community Buildings Water Efficiency Pilot project will be 100% funded by the UK Government – supporting us to save a predicted 180,000 to 320,000 litres of water in this financial year.
The project will reduce water use in community buildings within the Cambridge Water Resource Zone through a practical, evidence-led programme combining audits, targeted improvements, leakage reduction, monitoring and sector-wide learning. Working initially with a minimum of three community venues, specialist water audits and leakage assessments will identify opportunities for savings. Capital grants will then fund practical measures such as leak repairs, toilet flush optimisation, tap aerators, flow restrictors, efficient shower heads and other proven retrofit technologies. Water savings will be verified through meter readings, bill analysis and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) technology, with the learning shared through case studies and an online event to support wider adoption across community buildings in Cambridgeshire.
We are currently finalising the details, but we expect to start within the next three months and to conclude by the end of March 2027.
The weCB Fund is a new 100% UK Government backed water-efficiency fund, focused on saving water in non-household settings across Cambridgeshire. Cambridgeshire is seriously water stressed; it also has exceptional economic growth potential. The weCB Fund aims to unlock that potential by working with exceptional partners who have new and proven ideas for saving water in businesses and other non-household settings.
